Lavarnway is a catcher who will start the season on the roster...you're probably thinking of Middlebrooks. And the Marlins wouldn't take Youkilis for Hanley. |
Yea, I mixed the two of them up. And you're probably right. It would take Hanley really getting disgruntled about the switch to force their hand. It also wouldn't really help our biggest problem (getting consistency out of our top of rotation starters). _________________ "well, they got X player I wanted but they clearly overpaid" is the battle cry of bitter and ignorant football fans

So who wins the SS battle? My money is on Aviles, I don't think Iglesias' bat is near ready _________________

Yeah I think Punto might actually be the opening day starter. I'd prefer Aviles. Whoever it is will hit 9th.
1. Ells
2. Pedey
3. A-Gon
4. Youk
5. Papi
6. Salty
7. Ross
8. Sweeney
9. SS _________________

Interestingly, Mike Andrews of soxprospects is projecting Iglesias to win the SS job.
Also, this got me pretty excited:
| Quote: | But Soler was born in Cuba, a country in which baseball has no rival, and soon the 19-year-old outfielder will be the centerpiece of an auction in which the Red Sox intend to be serious bidders, the official said.
There are a number of teams interested in Soler, but he could be the centerpiece of an intense competition between the Red Sox and the Chicago Cubs and Theo Epstein, who according to some reports was preparing to make a four-year, $26 million for Soler. The White Sox, Yankees, Marlins, Phillies and Astros are all among the clubs who have been reported to be in on Soler, but the Sox are prepared to make a major push. |

Tek is retiring. My favorite player of the last decade by far, thanks for everything! _________________

I'm very glad that Tek and Wakefield went out as Red Sox. It would've been too difficult watching them don other unis. Varitek will be back in some capacity with the Sox as a catching coach or other FO position I'm sure. _________________
