Couple names we might throw some $ to that according to FFMD12 FA Tracker havent signed...
Chansi Stuckey
David Clowney
Legedu Naanee
Brandon Tate
Trindon Holliday (could pr/kr)
Bernard Berrian
Greg Camarillo
Deion Branch
Domenik Hixon
Plaxico Burress (really? not signed?)
Patrick Crayton
Not sure how many of those are still correct though, while not amazing there are some who could play a role on the team and be alot cheaper than ED. |
Thing is, right now we just have a ton of cap space left over, so around 3 million for a wide receiver who I think could have an impact isn't that much in the grand scheme of things. I'm not going with the FFMD mantra of if you have money, spend it all who cares, but Doucet as a 3 would be nice IMO. Especially since we know Floyd will miss a few games. We're also leading in Evans right now. 2.5 mil or something idk.
I just don't see any of those guys having a big impact anywhere. |
Here's a thought... we've got a ton of cap space. If we're not going to use it to sign Garay, why don't we put out there that for the right offer we're willing to take on salary in order to free up on of the teams bidding on a player in the 5th Wave of Talent Agency Free Agents - give them the opportunity to gain more ammo in their pursuit of a guy and see if it can't net us someone too. |
Brilliant! But what to offer..... hm.....
lakeroy, can you calculate the cap space remaining?
Our FAs from yesterday
Leinart - 700k
Bernadeau - 700k
Dreeseen - 1.3 mil
Roth - 1.9 mil.
On top of those listed on first page. _________________

Since we signed Leinart, I think we should cut Volek now. No reason to keep 3 QBs on the roster IMO, and Volek would save us $2 mil |

Chad "ochocinco" Johnson was released, maybe throw some $ towards him and hope it was just a bad year?
He'd have to change his name if he came to SD cuz no way in hell he gets the 85! _________________

I mean, I have no idea what the cap-hits are, but just some guys with large salaries I know teams are trying to move:
- Devin Hester (Chicago's also trying to maneuver for Finley, I'm fairly certain)
- Santonio Holmes (Jets were looking to move him, not sure what the price would be though; he'd eat Norv alive, but one would think Rivers would put him in his place; Edit: looks like the best offers they have are a high 4th and/or a 6th or a scrubbish receiver; none of which they've liked)
- Someone out of Oakland? I just know that they're trying to shed bad contracts - but I'm not sure what they have to part with that would entice us into making a deal. _________________

Its 1.3, that's my bad. Its kind of annoying though because I was forced to bid up to 1.3 million because a JEts person who shouldn't have been bidding forced me to bid up. Kind of annoying but eh. _________________

If so I think he would be a guy to go after. Would solve our SS issues. If not, isn't Kamerion Wimbley one of the bad contracts they're trying to get rid of? He'd solve our OLB issues. |

Wimbley wasn't too good in his last go around in a 3-4. _________________

He also reaped the benefits of playing a bunch of mid and lower tier LT's and seeing only single-blocks most of the season because of the combination of Seymour/Kelly/Houston/Shaughnessy on the line.
4 out of his 7 sacks last season came in a single game... rushing against Dombrowski. The year before... 1/3 of his total sacks in one game... against KC's backups. _________________

Doucet or Evans? Both are around the same price right now. _________________

Of the two, Evans. Though I'm sure it won't stop at the price they're at. People won't be happy in this until a receiver is making $80M/yr. _________________

I'd go with Evans over Doucet.
However I'd have bid up to 3m for Moss.
Anyone know what the status is with TO? I want him. The impact that he would have on Brown's development would be great. I also have no worries that Rivers will put him in his place. _________________

I know some will look at that list and their eyes will immediately go to Chad Johnson, but Mike Wright is well worth a speculative pickup - especially considering we don't have a ton of depth behind Thomas at NT right now. _________________

Other option would be bringing back OG who knows the system, Panthers cut him and I dont believe he has been bid on. _________________

Truthfully, Wright's a better run-defender which is what we need. Pass-rushers from the interior DL spots are easy to find for the rotational detail (because when they rotate in they're typically into 4 downed-lineman sets... thus you get the slew of 3-Techs that aren't great starters anymore but good in a rotation like Tommie Kelly that can be had).
Other option that I don't know if anyone's bid on or not yet is Kelly Gregg. He was actually pretty solid for the Chiefs last season. _________________

Pats just released him IRL this afternoon, he's coming off back to back concussions that ended his last two seasons, and speculation is he could be retiring. Just some food for thought, a great pass rushing 5-tech if healthy, but that's a long shot at this point. _________________
