http://www.bostonherald.com/blogs/sports/rap_sheet/index.php/2012/02/21/looking-toward-the-future-marcus-cannon-to-be-considered-an-offensive-tackle/
| Quote: | | Marcus Cannon, who beat cancer and was a late-season addition for depth, will be considered a tackle, not a guard, moving forward, I’m told. |
| Quote: | | While it hasn’t been said officially, the expectation is that Matt Light will not be back next year (with retirement definitely possible). |
So Cannon is most likely Vollmer insurance at RT, while Light is gone, saving the Pats $3.5M in cap room. _________________ Shut up, NBT |

I really hope Light retires instead of going somewhere else. I really wanted to see him as one of the presenters for America's Game _________________

Interesting.
I wish we could try Cannon at Guard. I mean, Solder is the future LT. Vollmer, if his back is alright, is the RT. |

Don't know how I feel about letting Light go. I don't trust Vollmer to stay healthy and I'm not sure Cannon is a quality T in the pros (i.e. I'd like to see him get work there before pulling the plug on Light).
Looks like a guard is now a top priority in the draft. |

Not really in support of this move. Unless Light retires, I don't see why we should let him go. Coming of his best season as a Patriot I don't see why we should let him go espically with the Vollmer's back issues. And I'm not 100% postively sold on Solder just yet but it doesn't worry me if he starts day 1 of next year.
Kind of suprised that Cannon is being considered soley a Tackle at, I was so certain he would eventually take over the right gaurd spot. _________________

| Unless they desperately need the $3.5M savings from dumping Light, I don't see any reason to let him go before final cuts. |

Sweet. I remember some people saying he looked better at RT than he did at RG so at least this firstworldproblem has been sorted out now. I think we might be looking at OG pretty early in this draft.

DeCastro will be long gone by the time the Pats pick. |

I expect that Vollmer will be allowed to walk after next season. If he bounces back, he'll price himself out of New England. If he continues to battle injuries, he won't be worth bringing back. _________________

Assuming Solder doesn't flop or continue to battle concussion problems. A lot can change in a year. There are a number of scenarios I could see where Vollmer stays. |

Why do you think that? If anything, I think it just means we're more likely to resign Connolly for depth. We're locked in at LG and Waters was our best OL last season. _________________

Waters will be here 2 years tops. He said he might retire this yr and only has 1 yr left on his contract. _________________

Even if he regresses this year, he's still a quality starter.
Since we have Mankins and Waters still, guard is hardly a "top priority". We have the best guard duo in the NFL besides the Saints and Ravens. _________________

And they're each losing a starting guard this offseason, more than likely. _________________ Shut up, NBT |
