As a Lions fan I would love to be able to keep Cliff but I think it would be crazy to franchise him at 10.5 mil. He is wanting Tamba Hali and Charles Johnson money and to be honest he is not as good as Hali and the Lions are not dumb enough to pay what the Panthers did for a good DE not elite DE. IMO he needs to look at what Jason Babin got and ask for a little more than him.

As general football fans what would you say Avril's value is? I can see a team like Jax overpaying to get him this offseason .

I think he's been playing out of position since he's been with Detroit and is an ideal 3-4 OLB type

I think he fits in either scheme. You are right though he may be a better fit in the 3-4. The Jets or Pats may want to take a look at him if he hits the open market.

Mid 1st value. Young guy and to a 3-4 team, he's worth a ton. I'd love him on the Chargers.

I thought he was strictly a 4-3 DE?

some may think that.

I'm not one of them. I DESPERATELY wanted the Steelers to go after him

Maybe the Steelers can convince him to sign for negative dollars his first year. Razz

I'm curious how Pittsburgh will afford to do much of anything this year, I know they can cut guys that are overpaid and re-sign him for cheap but they are like 8M in the hole.

Since the Lions take all the former Titan players, it's only fair we take Avril off their hands. Laughing He'll be a nice consolation prize for whoever doesn't sign Mario.

in terms of a trade.. i'd give up a second and maybe a little more.. he's better than anyone I could get with that pick.

in terms of money? I have a feeling he is more worth a contract the size of what Ray Edwards got in FA last year 5/30 or so.. instead of a contract like Charles Johnson signed which was a ton more than Edwards, I don't remember the exact figure though

I would agree with that. 5/30 would be what I would offer. If Lions cant get him to take that I would trade him to someone for a 2nd rd pick.

I don't think the Lions will franchise him and I expect the Jags to go after him and/or Mario Williams.

As awesome and as much as I want it to happen, I don't know if we'll be able to bring Jeremy Mincey back (29 and will probably be looking for a nice contract) so that would mean that we need 2 starters at DE.

He is from Jacksonville and if a team overpays I think it will be Jacksonville. They have to get some fans in that stadium and they will have to overpay FA to come there IMO.
