i heard he commits a lot of penalties. if this is true i don't want to touch him. it would be like having two Dre Flo's on the team. i mean if we are upgrading McGee with a Florence type player no thank you. we need a legit cover corner not just a guy who grabs the receiver whenever there is a hint of trouble.

Here in Northern CA, we get to see a lot of Raiders games... Does he really commit "a lot of penalties"? Yeah, sort of. The thing is it's like when the pressure is really on, when the game is on the line, it's as if he stops trusting his abilities and then holds. So, I guess I can see how people would say he commits a lot of penalties because they happen when people are likely to remember the penalty. Does that make sense? Anyway, he would be quality depth, but I'd prefer he didn't start for us.

Shed some light on this for Buffalo fans. 12 penalties in 2010 opposite Asomugha. 17 and 9 TDs given up in 2011. More penalties than the entire Packers defense.

He is good at one thing, bump and run. If he plays off man, he grabs at the WR and gets flagged.

He's a decent #2, but if he's playing zone, he is a mess. If he's not playing bump and run, he's an easy target.

He constantly gave Raider fans headaches when he had an illegal contact penalty on 3rd down off the play side. He was responsible for a number of drive sustaining penalties.

Also some rumors he butted heads with coaches and his attitude gets out of line. Take it with a grain of salt.

Thanks for chiming in. I didn't have the stats. I also should have explained why I thought he would be a good back-up...it's because as you said, he can play man. Zone guys are at a huge disadvantage because of the current rules. They sit back and then fire towards the ball, hitting "defenseless" receivers. Rolling Eyes Until the babying stops, zone guys are going to always be at a disadvantage, whereas man guys don't have the violent hits because they are (hopefully) running with the receiver.

I had no idea about the tension with coaches. Makes me want to retract the recommendation as a depth guy!

Some reports today are indicating that Dallas and the Texans are focused elsewhere, and will not maintain an interest in Routt's services. From the known teams that are interested, there is Buffalo, Tennessee, and Minnesota. If it comes down to those 3 teams, I like our chances.

Kansas City apparently left an impression on him. he is also going to see the bengals who have 40+ million available but dont plan in on diving on FA before resigning there own.

not this crap again...

What crap would that be?
it all depends on when nix strikes a deal with their agent. Last year the player was on a plane. He made way to much money and prolly wants a similar deal or he would reconstructed his contract. This will go on till he realizes he is not worth that much and is willing to take our deal. He can leave buffalo and we can still sign him

Well, yes. I suppose it is possible for him to leave and still sign here, but it's highly unlikely.

There's a better chance he is just using this visit, and any offer we may make, as leverage for negotiations with other teams.

Either way, I'm not going to get my hopes up about this, or any other possible signings, until they actually happen.

Yes, once they are signed it would be an appropriate time to get your hopes up about signing them.

What would everyones realistic contract for Routt be? What would you like to see and what would you hate to see him sign for?

You think we have that financial leeway with WR and DE/OLB being such a huge need?

Honestly that is silly.. 3 years 20 million is a huge risk and I would be unhappy if the bills spent that much on him.

Also might lead KC to use the franchise tag on Bowe instead of Carr, which is kinda depressing. Think he'd look great across from Stevie.
