I friggin' loved Barwin and wanted him bad. I was disappointed he went to a 4-3 team in the draft so I'm excited to see him as an OLB now! |
YUP me too! As a chiefs fan this was the one guy I really wanted us to draft! |
Guys, none of your pain is even close to mine! Here's the first thread I ever made on FF. The Patriots passed on him three times. |
All this is making me feel much better about our OLB situation _________________

Thank you for an in-depth study. Good work, man. I'm still looking at this off and on. |

| After going through my files of data on this subject, I'm certain that Jerry Hughes from TCU (was drafted by the Colts last year) would make a terrific 34 OLB... Instead hes sitting behind Mathis and Freeney. |

It looks like this was pretty accurate in projecting the pass rushing success of Von Miller and Justin Houston, although Von Miller did not play in a 34 this year. _________________

First off, BRAVO. This is really cool. Matt Roth isnt that bad as a 4-3 DE.
Any chance you can do a 4-3 DE one of these? _________________

| Wow, great minds think a like. I did this two years ago and posted about it last year, only I included weight and I have one for every position. You will find that trying to apply the same standard to all pass rushers without factoring in weight will create a bunch of useless statistical noise which will include fast agile guys that are physically too weak to be powerful enough to consistently rush the passer. |

I don't understand why your are incorperating 4-3 players or inside linebackers. I made this study specifically for 3-4 OLBs and how there 3-cone, vert, and broad correlate to PASS RUSHING success. When you start introducing any linebacker on any kind of defense, of course the study is going to get muddled. |
You can still blitz plenty out of a 43 defense. A guy with that many years in the league and 1 sack can pretty easily be deemed a below average pass rusher. |
This is a pretty ignorant statement when you consider the defense he was on.
You can't get him crack for the Browns conservative 4-3 D between '02 and '04. The blitz packages were few and far between, the defensive line was one of the worst in the league, and he was called on to stop the run 65% of the time because they were always behind.
You throwing his name in there simply isn't fair to the OP's original point.
But there are so many variables, and had Bentley had a shot with a team like Baltimore or Pittsburgh, it's possible he'd have had a different outcome. |

Glad to see Hali is the statistical anomaly, just amazing how well hes made the transition. He'll beat you with speed, power or moves and wont stop till the game is over, love how he plays the game.
Also Houston is coming around on the other side, and looks like an ideal compliment to Hali. |

Houston has ALL of the coverage assignments, when Hali is in the game. When they take Hali out, blitz, or go with a 2 man DL, Houston gets his chances. Put him in an all ahead role, like Hali, and he gets 15+ sacks.
I agree that it is not surprising that Hali is anoutlier. His tenacity is becoming proverbial.

After seeing Cam Wake's numbers I'm shocked he wasn't drafted. Those are ridiculous numbers. 45 inch vert? |
But you have to remember that though he has explosiveness, he was a 225 lb defensive end coming out, so those numbers are from when he was the size of a SS. Its still insane, but those numbers would be VERY different if you tested him now.
But with Hali, his burst/explosion is incredible and I have no idea why that didn't show through in the tests. Suggs is another interesting case. He would be another guy that would be an anomoly if he decided to do the tests. But guys like that get buy with freakish motor and power that doesn't show through in drills _________________

Hali also uses his hands as well as any pass rusher in the NFL... _________________
