Per Chris Mortensen's twitter account.
Many of you said you needed Peyton to be healthy in order to consider pursuing him. So, what are your thoughts now? |

No. No. and No. Still don't want him. Unless, we can run him through a combine where he is hit 19 times during a practice...similar to how many times his brother was hit in the playoffs. _________________

I don't care that he is medically cleared to throw a football with a hat and shorts on. Lets see him get hit, I don't want him. Lets invest in the Sanchize, its still our best option. _________________

Agreed Peyton is gonna want much more money than hes worth and who knows how hell be against an NFL defense. Having a liesurely catch with someone doesnt help the cause for him to come to the JETS. What happens if during the season if he gets injured and out for the season. We lost Sanchez most likely. If we do invest in Manning we invested in a guy who if he gets hit hard once hell be out for the year and most likely done for his career. Bottom line*** No thanks ill stick with Sanchez |

I think the bigger concern is Woody being influenced by the Giants success. Remember the last time the Giants won the Superbowl??? In retaliation, we got Brett Favre. _________________

Did you guys read what it said
He's cleared to resume his NFL Career which means he can start getting back to football, shape, football activities, you wanna see him get hit, why? no team he goes to is gonna have him get hit, NO QB GETS HIT, thats retarded to say. If Manning is healthy and can contribute at a high level you take him and run and never look back _________________

| You can not have it both ways. You either want a winner like Manning or a loser like Sanchez. Make a choice. |

You guys are crazy. You want a QB who has average arm strength at best over a guy that is a top 5 NFL QB of all time. He is cleared to play that means he has 7 months to get ready for next season. He still has 3 more good years in him. Manning is not made of glass. The guy has only missed this season. He had some crazy run of straight starts. If I was Woody, Tanny, or Rex I would be all over this. Sanchez is not even a pro bowl QB. I think I would take about 15 QB over Sanchez right now. I would even take Luck over him. The guy can not get the job done. Do you guys remember all those bad throws. That is not the OL, WR, Coaches, problem it was his. I'm all in for P. Manning and so is the media. Here is to Manning being a JET |

NO ONE has 3 surgeries on their neck and is OK with contact....#Iworkinsurgeryallday....Sanchez sacked 39 times this season....no telling how many times he was knocked down. Manning was sacked 40 times but it took three full seasons for that to happen. Manning has a tooth pick neck and mediocre arm strength until everything heals. NO way should be a JET _________________

HA!!!!!!! Since when is Peyton Manning this classic winner?????? Last time I checked Sanchez was 4-2 in the playoffs with one of those wins coming in New England. If I'm not mistaken, Peyton Manning has NEVER gone to New England in January and won and that was before his neck took a turn for the worse. I'll take a young and fixable Mark Sanchez over an aging, beat-up Peyton Manning ANY DAY. Also, in the two postseason games Mark Sanchez lost, they weren't his fault, he played well. Sanchez has never made a huge mistake in a playoff game, and who has???? All I know is there is one moment that Peyton Manning will be remembered for and it won't be a winning one:

Part of the reason he was sacked 39 times is that he is a bad QB. Now is there risk is signing Manning ? You bet but is like they say in the stock market "High risk high reward" I think that is the only way that we are going to see the JETS playing in the SB in the near future. |

The Opportunity cost for Manning is just too high ...
I agree that he is without a doubt a top 5 All time QB hell he may even be the best ever seeing as how the colts were easily the worst team in the NFL without him.
We need considerable changes this off season and just picking up Peyton would not solve all our problems. We get Peyton and we can't protect him that isn't good ... remember Sanchez was getting absolutely abused by opposing defenses unloading on him due to our protection of him.
We need a RT possibly a new RG and a HB who can block ... which Greene isn't all that good at when we needed someone to block Tomlinson stepped in. We also are to be losing Plaxico which puts us in the market for a WR as well ... to compliment our knucklehead Holmes.
If you can't protect your QB you can't throw the ball with any consistency no matter who is back there.
Also we desperately need to solve our 2 biggest needs on D the first being we need legitimate safeties who can Slow down the Patriots Dual TE's.
Also we need a real consistent pass rusher so we don't leave our D in coverage for insanely long periods and get off the field. Possibly we will also be in the market (Free Agent or Draft) for a ILB to replace Scott.
We are going through a considerable overhaul we are not a team thats a QB away from a Super Bowl and unless Manning gives us a major discount and we get some serious restructures everywhere... its hard to make this move.
In all honestly I would rather have Mario Williams than Manning right now longer career ahead of him and with his pass rush ability we know we can consistently have some sort of pressure coming at the QB. Also he isn't coming off as serious an injury.
Everyone seems to quickly forget Sanchez did play some good football for us in the playoffs in fact we were twice 1 game from the Super Bowl with him.
I believe we don't splurge on Manning and we retool our team so that we are able to make a push this coming year. If Sanchez then proves to be the only thing holding us back we have free agency and the draft next year to address the QB position and we are in a better position to move on from Sanchez.
Honestly I believe if we put the right tools around him and protect him well Sanchez will be the answer for us for years to come ...
Everyone has got to step back from a NYC Media perspective and look at the real numbers here ...
Yes Sanchez did contribute 22 Turnovers this year in INTs and Fumbles, but he also accounted for 32 TD's. I hope I do not point out that Eli Manning has 31 and 30 total TD's in his last 2 years and those were his 7th and 8th years in the NFL. Also a good deal of his turnovers were his fault several were completely not on him and came down to the horrible protection we gave him or the half heartedness by which some of our WR's played their games.
Also quick comparison of Mark's 3rd year with Elis
Mark 3,474 Yards 26 TD's Passing 18 INTs 6 Rushing TD's
Eli 3,244 Yards 24 TD's Passing 18 INTs 0 Rushing TD's
considering Eli has matured into one of the best QB's in the NFL because the Giants didn't bail on him let him keep growing and put the right weapons around him. And that Mark is better at this point than Eli was despite only having 1 year of College Football I have to say its way too soon to call it quits on the guy.
Am I saying without a doubt Mark is the man for the next Decade, Of course not he still hasn't proven it, but he has earned the chance to at least play out his contract without having the disgrace of being cut and thrown away. Of course I do believe that he should willingly renegotiate that ridiculous yearly number down to a level that makes some sense and does us some good landing key free agents this off season like hopefully a Mario Williams.
As I said at the start of this post the Cost of going after Peyton is just too high right now and not overly justified either. We have too many needs to fill than to put it all on 1 Older Player even if he is arguably the best QB to ever play the game.
As it stands though I think the Colts would be insane to let Manning walk if healthy. Its a dream senario to have a QB like that groom his incoming replacement and have his replacement ready to hit the ground running as his Hall of Fame Predecessor leaves. Also Peyton is the Colts... the face of the franchise and valuable to the city. I do not think a Healthy Peyton plays anywhere other than Indy next season.
Here's to the front office not making a rash decision and working to put the right pieces in place across the board. I also hope we will be able to work the cap numbers and contracts to make several big moves in free agency. A full off season for our team to work together and get to really develop wont hurt either. |
