I'm putting together a Mock Draft database in MS Access 2003 that I intend on distributing to any who want it on this site the first week in February (I may float some test versions out there sooner).

What I need from you guys are the top 7 team needs which will be a one click reference when making the mock. I figure no one on this site knows this team better than it's fans.

Any and all help is appreciated.

With the way our defense has been playing lately, you still think a pass rusher or FS is more important than upgrading Columbo? Rushing the passer hasn't been a problem for us in over a month now. And our safeties have been playing pretty well. Our one consistent problem all year long and a guy we simply can NOT go into next season with is Columbo. If Columbo is our starter again next year, then I will immediately be against any new organization that is brought in and decided to keep him there.

The NFL is a passing game now and your Pass Rush is to your defense what the QB is to your offense. Miami's pass rush is barely adequate and I'm looking for elite. With an elite pass rush, the Dolphins could start PD47 and Deets at CB and they'd be alright.

Furthermore, this is a draft needs thread, not a team needs thread. I'd like to think that Columbo will be replaced by a free agent.

Dude...you KNOW I play SOLb...you KNOW that Frank. For what its worth, Jason Taylor deserves a lot of props for having 6 sacks this year. However, he is old and Koa Misi sucks the big one. Sooooooooooo pass rush is huge on my list too.

I agree with you on pass rush, but it goes both ways. As much as we need pass rushers on defense to help the whole defense operate better, we need bookend OT's to keep those pass rushers at bay to help the offense operate better. A couple of bookend OT's and a solid QB, and PD47 could play WR for us and be successful!

LoL, was that the Bpaster Flip?

And yet another flip; contrary to popular opinion, great pass coverage can also make a great pass rush, and imo our DB's are lacking in Ball Skills ( seriously lacking in ball skills ).....like our starting CB's couldn't find 2 Balls if they were located between their legs. Anyways, I'd take CB over OLB if we have the CB rated higher and he's available. I'd even go so far as to say CB is a bigger need than pass rush in todays NFL, but not as big a need for us as RT imo.

IF we don't assign a positional importance on any of these then this is how I rank which guy I want replaced more...

1. Columbo
2. Carey/Jerry
3. Moore/Henne
4. Misi
5. Jones/Clemmons
6. Incognito
7. Hartline
8. Fasano
9. Sean Smith

Of course when you add in positional importance QB jumps to the top. I don't see SOLB as any more important than a RT personally and I think Columbo is much worse at his job than Misi is at his. I could make the argument that positional importance puts Misi over a LG (Moving Incognito to RG to compete) But Sean Smith is pretty low on the list for me of guys needing replacement.

Really? Coverage sacks are nice, but I'd say that they're a heck of a lot rarer than INTs on poor throws made because of the pass rush.

Exhibit A is Tom Brady. I've seen him destroy top-end secondaries and lose to bad teams who've been able to pressure him into making mistakes.

1. QB
2. T or G
3. G or T
4. DE (praying we go back to 4-3)
5. HB
6. S
7. CB

If we get a franchise QB, we HAVE to fix OL before we address pass rush. I would hate to see an investment in Barkley, Griffin, or Jones end up injured reserve status by week 3 because of a concussion after running for his life. Sunday's game, in my opinion, made that obvious.

Actually, I don't disagree with you. I just stated what I want to say poorly.

What I mean to say rather is; The Nickle CB position is more important in todays NFL than a rotational / situational pass rusher.

I'm not sure if we are undervaluing the Nickle position ( our FO that is ) or if we just have so many other needs we haven't been able to properly address it.
