Great post as usual Willink.
Can't go wrong with any Dilla beat, truly a master at the craft. While I think Premo is #1 and Dilla is #2(very, very close though) I have no problem with anybody saying he's the best.
I hope people here who are new to his work are able to appreciate it. |

Hey man. No spoilers. I was excited that neither broseph or colt took them. |

I've got Dilla's whole discography sitting in my backlog. Been too busy to rip them into iTunes. I should probably do that tonight. _________________

I wasn't even sure who I was going to do next, but I wanted to stay away from MBV...just because I feel like they're well known enough for everyone to have probably already listened to their best music. I'd prefer to stay away from the big bands and keep my picks more obscure...though I'd imagine I'll pick some well known [and well slept on] artists along the way. _________________

PML and Jetsqb present an introduction to:
The Strokes
Genre: Rock
Oh, men don't notice what they got. Oh, women think of that a lot...
A thousand ways to please your man (oh-ho). Not even one requires a plan (I know)
And countless odd religions, too. It doesn't matter which you choose (oh no)
One stubborn way to turn your back (oh-ho). This I've tried and now refuse (oh-ho) - You Only Live Once
Best Album: no real debate here, it's Is This It. Their debut album is terrific and it would be hard to find somebody who doesn't think it's their best album.
Best Songs by The Strokes:
Someday
Last Nite
Reptilia
The End has No End
12:51
Under Cover of Darkness
Discography:
Is This It
Room on Fire
First Impressions of Earth
Angles
| Packman Luke's thoughts wrote: | | The Strokes are that rock band. The group of guys that mock the media, party hard, and just plain rock. I love their style, their attitude, and Julian Casablancas' voice. Along with giving us one of the greatest albums of all time with Is This It, they have put together quite a collection of solid, albeit it somewhat declining, music. When I first heard them, they exploded into my top 5 bands, and all these years later their music still keeps me interested. I haven't listened to their new album yet, but even with their drop in quality over the years I can't help but get excited for the new addition to their discography. |
| Jetsqb101's thoughts wrote: | | I should start this off by saying that I think the absence of some Strokes songs from our list is insane, but I also feel that way about more than 6 songs by the Strokes so I suppose I was bound to feel that way anyway. 'Hard to Explain' and 'You Only Live Once' specifically deserve mention but that's beside the point, cause the songs that we did list are still awesome. The Strokes are the coolest band I've ever heard and Is This It is viewed by many as a classic album which is where most of their strong tracks lie. Still there are plenty of complaints with the Strokes, statements about the first album being repetitive, the followup albums being poor attempts to update their sound, and annoyance that they took so long to put out their fourth album. I agree with the last point cause I love the Strokes, but I think the hate the followup albums get is unjustified, I actually like First Impressions of Earth quite a bit. Their fourth album is coming out on Tuesday I believe but is available to listen to on their website now(Under Cover of Darkness is from that one) |

Yeeeeessssssss the Strokes. One of my all time favorites.
Jetsqb101 and Packman Luke clearly have the best taste in music on FF. Modest Mouse, the Shins, the Strokes...
Their new album is really unusual. Under Cover Of Darkness was deceptive in that it had people thinking the entire album would be a throwback just like it was. This couldn't be further from the truth. This new album is really polarizing and it definitely has its ups and downs, but the ups are just so damn good and so different even while retaining that Strokes sound we all know and love.
If anything it just makes me excited for their next one, lol...once they smooth out the kinks with this new style and kind of re-establish their identity it's gonna sound great. _________________
