Jenkins earned immediate playing time, taking over the nickel job as a freshman and finishing the year with 37 tackles. Just a sophomore in 2006, he earned All Big 10 1st team honors after finishing with 55 tackles and a team leading four interceptions. As a junior, he had 44 tackles, five for loss, and three interceptions.
Jenkins is a true physical specimen, and is arguably the most talented corner in the country. He has excellent size, is a very good athlete with excellent speed. He has the size and strength to be a force against the run but he separates himself from other big corners with his ability to turn and run with receivers down the field. Jenkins also has excellent ball skills, showing the ability to pick up the football in the air and make a play on it. He has all the tools to be a shut down corner in the NFL.
Even though Jenkins has gotten quite a bit of playing time in just three seasons at the college level, he could still use more work developing his skills. He is so physically gifted that he can recover from his mistakes in the college game quickly, but in the NFL it will not be so easy.
If he declares, Jenkins will be in serious contention to be the first corner selected. His combination of talent and upside will have him up there with Antoine Cason and Justin King.
