Jason Allen CB/S Tennessee 6’2 200 Jr.
By: Robert Davis

Jason Allen has improved by leaps and bounds since his freshman season. He played as a true freshman, but didn’t have a real impact. As a sophomore, he jumped on to the scene, starting 8 games and finishing with 49 tackles and 2 interceptions. Allen blew up as a junior however. He finished the season with 123 tackles, 3 for loss, 2 sacks, and 2 interceptions.

Allen brings a lot of versatility to the football field. He has experience at both safety and corner, and has the physical skills to play both at the next level. Allen has good size, is strong, athletic, and has good speed. On the field, he is very active and very aggressive. Allen is a very good cover man, and is willing to attack the line of scrimmage in run support. He was also voted a captain as a true junior this past season.

Since Allen has played both corner and safety, it has hindered his development on one spot. He needs a lot of work to play corner, but he does have the physical ability to play it. He’s going to need time and coaching to get it out of him though. As a safety, he is better prepared to play immediately, but he still needs more experience there as well.

Jason Allen is a very good defensive back prospect. He can project at two positions, and depending on the team could play either in the NFL. I rank him as a safety, because I believe he is better at that position now and more prepared to play now at that position. He reminds me of a bigger version of New England’s Eugene Wilson. He’s a great cover safety, but can lay a lick, and has the ability to double as a corner. His stock will be determined in post season workouts, but Allen should be gone by the middle of the second round. If a team projects him at corner, he could hear his name called in the first round.
