Antonio Perkins CB Oklahoma 6’ 190
By: Robert Davis

Antonio Perkins will go down as one of the most explosive return men in college football with the plays he made as a punt returner. In his three years returning punts, he ran back 8 punts for touchdowns, including three in one game against UCLA in 2003. He was a consensus All American as a return man as a junior. As a cornerback, Perkins brought some of that playmaking ability, and intercepted 10 passes during his four years on the field.

Perkins is one of the best dual threat players in the draft. He is a solid prospect as a corner, showing the speed and agility to turn and cover just about any receiver on the field. But his strength is no doubt his return ability. He is an explosive punt returner, and is a threat to take it to the house every time he touches it, on returns or interceptions.

As a corner, Perkins doesn’t play with the physical nature you want to see. He can cover guys, but he won’t get in their face at the line, and isn’t a very good tackler in the open field. He will bite on fakes too often in effort to make the big play, and needs to show better discipline within the defense.

Perkins grades out as a solid second rounder because of his ability as a return man. He may only be a nickel corner at the next level, but his ability to help a team in multiple ways is going to make him a coveted prospect come April.
