Tom Brady, QB, Michigan
Height: 6-5 Weight: 213

Profile by Tony Duval

Tom Brady is your typical Michigan QB coming into the 2000 NFL Draft. He will be considered smart and steady QB, but not gifted with great athletic ability or a rifle arm. In my opinion, that is the way he should be categorized. Brady is a steady performer on the field and what you will get from him is a steady solid game without a lot of turnovers. He will also make the right decisions in key moments in a game to help his team win. Now if you would rather have the flashy reckloose with a cannon for an arm (see Ryan Leaf two years ago) lead your team then go ahead. If you want a QB that won't make a lot of mistakes in "Crunch Time" for you and then Tom Brady is your QB of the future.

The Numbers:
1999: 12 games, 214-341 (63%), 2,586 yds passing, 6 Int's, 20 TD's.
1998: 13 games, 214-350 (61%), 2,636 yds passing, 12 Int's, 15 TD's.
1997: 4 games, 12-15 (80%), 103 yds passing, 0 Int's, 0 TD's.

The Scoop:
Tom Brady had his first successful season with the Michigan Wolverines during the 1998-99 season. Brady began the season in a battle with frosh Drew Henson for the starting QB spot. Brady ended the 98-99 season as the solid #1 QB with some great numbers: 2,636 yds passing, 15 TD's and a 61% completion percentage. He came through big for the Wolverines in a key game with Penn State. Brady had 224 yds passing and 2 TD's in a 27-0 win.

Tom Brady earned Honorable Mention All Big Ten at QB in 99-00 for Michigan. Once again Brady started out the 1999-2000 season slow and was in a battle again with sophomore Drew Henson for the starting QB spot. As with the 98-99 season, Brady was by far and away the best QB for Michigan at the end of the season. Brady ended the 99-00 season with 2586 passing yards, 20 TD's and just 6 int's. He also completed a very respectable 63% of his passes. Brady made the most of his abilities in the "Prime Time" night light of the Orange Bowl against a tough Alabama team. Brady went 34-46 with 4 TD's and ZERO Int's.

Brady projects as a 5-7th round pick in the 2000 NFL Draft. Yes, I think Brady will get drafted. Why? Because he is a Michigan QB, he is a steady, consistent QB and is probably better then 70% of the backup QB's in the NFL (see, Steve Stenstrom, Scott Mitchell, etc) right now.

STRENGTHS:
SIZE: At 6-5 213, Brady has the size to see over the line of scrimmage and the bulk to break and avoid sacks.

CONSISTENCY: What more can you ask from a QB then 61 & 63% completion rates, 2,636 & 2,586 passing yards and 15 & 20 passing TD's in consecutive seasons in a TOUGH Big Ten Conference.

BIG GAMER: Brady had the knack during the 98-99 & 99-00 seasons to step up his game in the games that counted the most for the Wolverines.

WEAKNESSES:
Does not posess a very strong arm. Seems to play to the competiton, plays big in big games, but disappears against smaller competition.
